Why usmooth Created a Free Recycling Program for our Customers
It’s imperative that we recycle E•waste. Improper disposal of TVs, tablets, computers, phones, and other small appliances pose serious environmental risks for all living things.
E•Waste FACTS
- The World Economic Forum estimates that 81.6 million metric tons of E•waste will be produced annually by 2030 worldwide and only 17.4% will be properly recycled.
- In 2020, United States generated roughly 6.9 million metric tons of e•waste, which averages to 47 pound per person.
- E•waste makes up 2% of America’s trash in landfills, but it contains 70% of the country’s toxic waste.
- Concentrations of hazardous metals in the air, water, and soil at landfill sites show a significantly higher quantity than permissible standards set by the US Environmental Protection Agency, the World Health Organization, and the European Union.
- Studies show that 30% of people living near landfills test positive for signs of heavy metal poisoning, display symptoms of respiratory problems, and blood abnormalities.
- The United States is the 2nd largest producers of e•waste in the world, dumping between 300 – 400 million electronic items per year with less than 20% being recycled.
Televisions, laptops, tablets, and cell phones represent the largest percentage of e-waste in the United States, followed closely by small appliances like hair styling tools. It is essential to promote awareness regarding responsible disposal practices, beginning with usmooth’s recycling program. https://usmooth.com/partners-in-kindness/
